Like any business, fluctuations in caseload—and therefore income—are common in a psychotherapy practice. These can be quite stressful, but taking concrete steps to manage them can help ease the pressure.
What is the 10% rule?
A 10% fluctuation in caseload can be reasonably predicted and can be factored in while planning your therapy business. Here’s how:
Session Fee: If you’ve calculated ₹1000 as your session fee to meet both professional and personal needs, consider charging 10% more. This helps cushion against unexpected downturns.
Client Load: If you’ve determined that you need 15 clients per week to meet your monthly revenue goal, try aiming for 10% more clients weekly or monthly. This extra “buffer” creates room for unexpected changes without compromising your financial stability.
Got more ideas for handling caseload fluctuations? I’d love to hear from you.
Until next week,
