⚖️ Communicating about increase in session fees

This is the 10th edition of the weekly newsletter! I woke up at 8am today to ensure I don’t miss it this week. If you’ve been enjoying the newsletter, consider forwarding it to a friend. If this has reached your inbox but you haven’t subscribed yet, subscribe here.

So, you’ve decided to increase your session fees. How do you communicate it to clients?

  • Let clients know at least 1-3 months in advance so that they have time to prepare financially.

  • Work through your own emotions of fear or guilt before having a conversation with clients. I usually take 3 months for this.

  • Consider having a conversation within the session first so that there is time to process any feelings about it. Followed by an email/message with a written update.

  • For any new clients you are onboarding, it is possible to have a bigger increase in fee without worries about whether the jump is too much for them to afford.

  • It can help to have a fixed time in the year when you’ll be raising your fees and share that with clients at the beginning of the therapy work.

January is a few months away. If you haven’t already, consider increasing your fee in the new year.
