How do we feel about the M word? (Marketing)

What comes up for you when you think about Marketing?
Very frequently, therapists have unpleasant feelings associated with the M word. And understandably so. Marketing strategies have involved tactful usage of psychological principles to almost ‘trick’ people to buy a product.
I’d be concerned if therapists did not feel uncomfortable about this kind of marketing. Considering the nature of therapy work, this would not work for the therapist community.
So what can marketing mean for psychologists?
It can be a way to be visible to and let potential clients know “Hi, I am so and so. I am a therapist and I offer xyz services and I have space to take on new clients at the moment”. If they don’t know about you, they cannot avail your services.
Until next time,
Suvrita
P.S. Write to me if you have more thoughts on how can marketing for therapists can be different from the traditional methods. There is a dearth of information and co-creation of knowledge is the way to go.
