⚖️ If not therapy, then what?

This is an ongoing series on career transitions, attempting to draw concrete suggestions from an abstract, nonlinear journey. Read the first post on where to start thinking about the same. If you’re interested in an online meet to chat more about this, drop me a line.
How do you find a role/field that can be a good fit for you? Last week I wrote about socialising with people different from you. Here are some more thoughts:
Foster Curiosity: There is a lot more to the world than we are usually aware of. Left to ourselves, we tend to operate in constraints of what we know. Curiosity can be helpful in expanding the limits of what is possible.
Try new things: Move out of your comfort zone and experiment with something new. You might not know where it’ll lead, a lot of them will not work out- but you never know what you might discover.
It took me 2 years to make this transition to Product Management after I made the decision for it, and much longer to discover and choose this path. A series of random, curiosity driven actions over the years have lead me to where I am today. I explored many fields along the way- Development Sector, Diversity & Inclusion, Marketing, Sexuality Education.
Giving myself permission to meander aimlessly ultimately brought clarity.
Initially they were done just because. Eventually, there was a clear goal- to explore as much as I can in the initial years of my career. What continues to surprise me though is that things that I have learnt along the way never go to waste- a useful reminder for moments where it feels like ‘what am i doing/why am i doing this?’.
Next few weeks will be sharing more about learning more about roles and some paths for a transition.
Until next week,
Suvrita
