‘Marketing’ often comes with a negative connotation, largely due to how it’s been used by companies in the past. Psychological principles are frequently leveraged to subtly ‘trick’ consumers into buying products they might not even need need.

Of course, that is not what a psychologist intends to do with marketing.

So, if it’s not about ‘tricking’ people, what should marketing be about?

It is about being visible. If people don’t know about you, how will they ever find you?

“Not marketing yourself is a disservice to the people who need your help. You can’t help them if they don’t know you exist.”
- Michael Fulwiler, The Therapy Marketer

These days, psychologists are creating posters that highlight their qualifications, client focus, and session fees. This is fantastic because it helps increase their visibility and reach- without relying on any manipulative tactics.
