⚖️Reducing Admin Load- Hire an Assistant

I visited a psychotherapist’s clinic the other day, there was a receptionist handling appointment booking, payment collection etc. In brick and mortar clinics, it is mandatory to have an assistant/receptionist handling some of these things. However, in telehealth- the therapist ends up doing everything (and often feeling overwhelmed).

However, even in online work, some tasks can be delegated to an assistant. This can free up your time and energy to have more balance in life or take an more clients. Here’s how:

  1. List all the tasks you can delegate to the assistant.

  2. Will these require a full time commitment or a part time one? If part time, how many hours a day/week will they need to give to finish the required tasks?

  3. What is your budget for the hiring? Accordingly you can consider hiring a college student (say a Bachelors or a Masters student) or if you can afford more, consider hiring an assistant with good communication skills the way regular brick and mortar clinics do. Latter might offer more long term stability compared to former.

  4. Make a JD mentioning the tasks, your budget, required qualifications and spread the word.

You will need to spend some time initially to set up processes and train the person. But once it is stabilized, there will be a lot more breathing space for you.

Next week, I’ll talk more about the kind of tasks and processes that can be delegated. If you have ideas, share with me!

Until next time,
