⚖️Reminder: Wear your oxygen mask first

Therapists are deeply invested in the journeys of their clients. While empathy drives our work, it can sometimes lead to guilt—whether it’s for charging for missed sessions, taking a break, or raising fees.
Naturally, we want to take care of our clients in these moments; it would be concerning if we didn’t. And a nuanced perspective on these questions is essential.
However, as they remind us on flights: put on your oxygen mask before assisting others. It is practical advice—without our own stability, we can’t be of service to anyone.
In therapy, the risk of neglecting oneself is burnout, or even leaving the field altogether. So, next time you’re facing a critical decision, do consider whether you might need to put on your own oxygen mask first.
Until next week,
Suvrita
