⚖️Why Therapists Should Reflect on their Online Presence

I almost missed this week, but managed to keep up the weekly streak, phew! If this has reached your inbox but you haven’t subscribed yet, subscribe here.

How do people decide on a therapist?

  • If they know others who’ve been to therapy and had a good experience, they prefer going to the same therapist.

  • These days, a lot of people look up the therapist on the internet and go through any publicly available posts the therapist might have made.

What are they trying to do?

To ascertain if they can trust the person. Understandably, they want to know if the therapist can potentially understand their life experiences, not judge them, and has the skills to support them in their journey.

In that sense, the therapeutic relationship in the modern world begins long before the first session. It starts the moment someone learns about you.

What does this mean for therapists?

  • When you think about marketing, consider this- how can I build trust and credibility amongst people through these initiatives?

  • As you post on social media or share content, ask yourself- how might a potential client perceive this? And if you are concerned about that, sometimes it might even warrant further reflection on the particular topic.

Until next week,
