What will happen if therapists stop charging money?

I often hear therapists talk about the guilt they feel in charging people money. We are in a helping profession and intimately aware of the distress our clients are experiencing. In this context, some people tell me that it almost feels sinister to bring up money.

But humour me for a minute. What will happen if we don’t charge any money for our services?

Will we go through extensive training?

Will we reflect deeply on ourselves?

How might it shift the way we show up in the sessions?

What changes will happen in the therapeutic space or conversations?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Until next time,

Suvrita
